I have 12 models on the list and a total of 30 top 50 guns. List had too many shotguns. Win 94 x 3 (1917, 1921, 1986) Rem 700 x 5 (223, 7mm08, 300Blk, 308, 6.5 CM) Rem 1100 x 3 (12, 20 & 28) Ruger SSS x 2 (only one Convertible) Ruger 10/22 x 2 T/C Contender x 2 (G1 & G2) 1911 x 1 AR15 x 8 Win 12 x 1 Marlin 336 x 2 (30/30 & 308MX) Marlin 60 x 1
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

I have no guns. Pretty good gallery, though.

Too many scatters IMO.
Take out the shotguns and I can understand my own taste.

12 but disagree about the inclusion of the model 60 and the exclusion of the Colt Python.

Ruger 10/22 one of the best guns ever?
Most popular, sure; but best? I'm not sure there is a semi-auto 22 that belongs on this list.

I like lists like that. Good fodder for debate.
I don't know jack about shotguns.
F&S did a "50 best rifles" list a few years back that I enjoyed too.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I think the Python suffered in pricing and marketing. The only one I shoot a good amount was a fine gun And shoot very well and accurately. However it was just so much more expensive than the S&W or Riger counterparts. So at the end the day I stuck with my simple S&W. I assume many others making the same decision made the same choice. I think that's probably part of the reason why it never got too much traction.
I got 7 of these.

I have 23 of the 50 models listed. There are only a couple on the list I'd like but don't have have.
And I agree, the Python should have made the list. Judging by some of the shotguns price-point wasn't a factor.
Edited again to add: I also think the Ruger Standard or Mk-I could have replaced any one of several on the list.

I think they missed some, I'd have the Remington 552 instead of the Marlin 60, the Perazzi Mirage/MX 8 instead of the MX10, the Winchester 52C Sporter.

Ruger 10/22 one of the best guns ever?
Most popular, sure; but best? I'm not sure there is a semi-auto 22 that belongs on this list. F & S or Outdoor Life had an article about .22lr semi-autos. It read that if all other manufacuters total sales of rifles combined would not equal the number of Ruger 10/22's sold. So that tells me it belongs on the list. It's one of the firearms every law abiding, over 18 American should own.

I think in many ways the author get's confused between best and most important. In some cases, he chooses because of important innovations, in others it's because they're the best. He's not even consistent.

I have or have owned 25 from that list but there are several more that I would have added and dropped.

No way a $2000 revolver belongs. The 10/22 and Marlin 60 belong. The Ruger Mark I, II, and III should be one there. Take off 10 of the shotguns. Maybe I missed the 870. Mosins are a fad...a fad I made a little off of. Not a great list, not bad.
Pass the gravy.
