Thinking about getting a Savage short action and doing a Form 1 and putting a 10-12" barrel on it. I've read a couple threads on other forums about shorty bolt gun but curious if anyone here has experience with one. Probably do a 243 or 6.5CM.

They are really cool, and very maneuverable. Sure you will lose velocity, but for a straight hunting rig they are very nice. The shortest barrel I have is 16", so no ATF involvement. And compared to all my other bolt actions it feels like pointing a wand.

Seems like a waste of powder and effort sbr'ing anything that has a case capacity in that range. Id Consider the 300 bo which is awesome sbr'd, 358 whisper, 6.8 spc, 7mm valkyrie, 300 fireball, 7x223, 6x45, 6.5 grendel/lbc etc. Your not even burning half powder and will get specs more realistically of the cartridges listed above. Just my .02

Here's mine, I did a Mossberg MVP in .223 with 11" barrel. I have a DNV mounted on it....
