I'm not very educated on optics but am wanting input on what scope to mount on my mauser 98 in 9.3X62
It came with Talley(?) bases.
I primarily hunt in Llano county and the longest shot I perceive taking with it is 300 yards.
I have a Leupold VX3 on my other rifle.
my budget is around $500.
thanks in advance

Leupold VX-3 2.5-8 is worth considering. I'm very happy with mine.

Fine choice. Or 3.5 - 10x or 4.5 - 14x.

I've been playing with the new Minox ZA5 HD 2-10x50 30mm I bought earlier this year to put on a T3 260 - Talley Mediums fit perfectly, and after running a 3x9x40 Burris FFII on a CZ 550 9.3 for a long time, I do believe this Minox is a "Lil Red Riding Hood" kinda scope...Just Right. I think Doug at CameraLand still has these at under $350 from a $600 MSRP in the Demo-Open Box section. Glass is made in Wetzlar Germany, and the scope is assembled in California.

Bushnell Elite 2.5-10x or a Nikon Monarch 3 2.5-10x are both well under $500 and are hard to beat value wise.
