I picked up some protein feed last weekend in Junction, but wasn't sure of the brand. It was in a white sack with black writing. Any ideas of the brand and what the protein % it contains?

It was $11.40 a bag and I'm not sure of the protein %. That's what I'm trying to figure out.
White bag with black antlers on the front if I remember correctly.

Without a name or label it will be hard to guess.

I meant to say I couldn't remember the brand name and was hoping someone might know what it was after I described it. White sack with black lettering. I picked it up at a feed store in Junction and I've seen it before in local stores in Conroe.

Still without a label it could be 16,17,17,20% protein levels and who knows what fiber % or minerals/vitamins are in it or not in it.

It's called Parker Lumber on 377 just pasted the bridge coming from I-10. Not a feed store, but they carry blocks, corn, and other feeds.

A quick phone call maybe?, They may not be able to tell you what % you got if they carry multiples though, but you will have the brand/mill name.

Well, being from El Campo may be some help, one of the STX fellas may have an idea now. Never heard of a "No Name" brand, someone has to make it. For that price, it needs a name!

crude protein: 20% crude fat: 3% crude fiber: 15% calcium(min): 1.15% calcium(max): 1.65% phosphorus: 0.80% potassium: 0.60% copper: 50 ppm selenium: 0.30 ppm zinc: 300 ppm vitamin A: 15,000 IU/LB vitamin E: 50 IU/LB
How do these numbers look compared to some of the stuff you guys use?

Compared to what I feed, the protein% is the same. The fiber is more(which is not good) 15% on this vs 12% on the feed I use. Phosphorus, calcium are low, copper and zinc are really low in comparison. Also what and how many sources of proteins(the feed I use has 11 different protein sources) and minerals they use are key. Minerals and trace minerals are very important this time of the year. Minerals/trace minerals can also be very expensive to increase amounts of them, driving the price per bag way up. Adding phosphorus from .80% to 1.10% can add $30/per ton to feed costs. The area of the state can effect how you are limited to what is available to buy also. Price wise they are close with the feed I am using about $.40-.50 bag less, but I buy from the manufacturers own stores. http://www.lefeeds.com/Images/DeerFeeds/Tags/20PERCENTPELLETS.png

I want to get all our hunters on board with a good protein feeding program, but it's just so hard being 6 hours away and with most guys having small (55 gallon) feeders. I've been going up once a month to maintain my feeders, but it's a loss cause if everyone isn't putting out protein right now when it's so very important. I've been thinking about adding another protein feeder that's time released so I'll at least know there's some protein at all times. Something maybe similar to this: Obviously not a 5 gallon bucket, but the same concept.

Get them to add roasted soybeans with their corn into their spin feeders if they are not wanting to feed protein. I have seen something similar to the feeder conversion you posted with only a 5 gallon bucket used where they built a trough to sit under the bucket. When the feeder went off it let the feed drop into the trough for the deer to eat. I think a timered trough style protein/corn feeder would be a better option to feed protein daily at certain times/amounts vs a spin feeder. Some can even be converted into a spin feeder for hunting season.

I like feeding protein, it really shows in bad range conditions for us. But working on ratio and over all numbers will help a lot more and cost a lot less if they are not already where they should be.

I would love to feed LE, but we are never through there at the right time to get it and we don't buy enough to get bulk.

I would love to feed LE, but we are never through there at the right time to get it and we don't buy enough to get bulk. I buy most of mine at George West at their store there. They also have a bulk truck there to go to ranches to fill feeders and for some it is cheaper than buying feed, hauling it down then putting it out. Can get pricey if you don't need a lot or the mileage gets up there. Keeping deer numbers down pays off for sure. I have been the only one around me shooting does and it showed in feed consumption this year so far.

Yes sir I was basically saying I would add a broadcast feeder, but enclose the plate to allow protein to build up in a protein tube added to the bottom. What would you suggest? 10 pounds thrown every morning?

If you are wanting to feed bucks then feed betweem 10pm and 2am since that is when they are most active due to heat during the antler growing season.

I was wanting to set the protein drop times for early morning to possibly slow down the coon feedings, but feeding the "right" deer is more important than a loosing extra feed in my eyes. Who knows maybe the deer get on a late evening schedule and raid the protein before coons have their shot.

Get you some dog proof coon traps and work the coons over everytime you go to the lease.
