I finally pulled my 11pt buck head out of the ground. I harvested this deer back on that first Sat of Nov 2014 .. gun season.

I wanted to try something different and I decide to bury my trophy and let mother nature do its thing.

When I pulled it out of the ground all I had to do was hit it with the water hose with the tight stream. There was no meat, fur, or anything else on the bone. All the dirt came off and it was pretty much the way the pic looks. I did soak it down with some bleach to clean up the smell. I was not sure if it did smell as I cannot smell, but common sense told me it did. I think I will do the rest of the deer i harvest this way too. I think it looks pretty good for free! What do you guys think?

Did you put it on an ant pile? I did this with a does head as an experiment, 2 years later it still had the fur on it

No there was no ant hill... I did not think about putting it where they are. I buried it under some bushes in a nice shaded spot. It was buried up the horns in good black dirt.

I believe ants will only devour the meat and only when it is fresh

Did you leave the antlers above ground? Does it look like any mice chewed on them?

I have seen this done and most videos showed them putting a tote over the top of the horns to keep animals off of it.

I did the same in my garden...worked great - took about 3 months to complete. Then a quick boil, and it was ready to mount on some nice cedar.
You going to tack it up to a piece of wood, or hang it like that?

I have not decided what I want to do with it.
