I'm curious to know what DIAPHRAGM call you guys are using to kill your gobblers so far this season? Doing a little research to see what the hot calls are this year. Thanks, and Good Huntin'

I can't seem to master a diaphragm, so I just started using my mouth. lol Worked a few weeks ago. Not very loud but good good enough when they are close in.

I've tried a dozen or so different makes and models over the last few years. For some reason I can get this call to make a lot of sounds just right. Better than I can with others.
Primos Long Hook

Everybody is different, but it works great for me.

For a diaphragm, I use a Hook's Executioner 2. I mainly use a box and pot calls until I get them close where I can't move my hands. Primos's is my go to box call, and I like all my custom pot calls (Lights Out and Kaiser) in slate, glass, cooper, and ceramic. Just depends on what they are answering.

I'm down with some Diamond cutter diaphragm every now and again. But I stick mostly to the pot(s)...I use my box to locate. Try something different every hunt -- learn something new.

I use a combination of a knight and hale aluminum slate and a bass pro shops diaphram call. I use them interchangeably to see what they like. I like a three daiphram call with a v cut or a cutting call. I switch up with different ones each day.

95% of the time I use a box or pot call to work the bird in close and then switch to a mouth call to finish the deal when they are in close. And yes…I use all of these. Just depends on what they like that day. grin

Boxes: David Halloran Purple Heart/Cedar
Red Head Walnut/Osage Orange deluxe box
Quaker Boy Hurricane-cheap call-waterproof and really good yelp and great clucks/whines

Pot: David Halloran Twisted Sister
Primos Power Crystal
Bully’s Hook Buster Glass/Slate
I have a ton of pegs I use with these but my favorite is a flared tip peg made by Primos.

Mouth Call: Quaker Boy Pro triple. I cut a notch out of the left side of the reeds with an exacto knife to give it just hint of a rasp and makes it easy to cluck, whine and purr.

Owl hoot is excellent for locating roosting birds. Just say who cooks for youuuuu.

I think a slate call is very easy to learn. I use an aluminum call personally, but slate is easiest to use. I do not use this brand, just posted as an example.

The little box calls that go on the end of your gun are also easy

If you want to try a diaphragm call, I would try a double reed call, they are easier to blow then a triple reed. I like a double reed split v. I rinse mine with mouthwash every time I use them and store them to keep them clean. You can buy a few and work your way up...

Start them up with a Halloran box and finish them up with a Hooks Devastator diaphragm....11 birds have fallen to this combination so far this year.

It's been a mighty good year.

Wow, GamblinMan......It has been a good year !! Congrats to you and your hunters. I have done well this year with the new Primos Bamboozled Pot and the HS Strut Split V III. I originally asked the question about diaphragms because I was curious to see what Hooks calls guys were using.

Hooks most popular are the Executioner and Executioner II calls. I use a call that has been discontinued
(Devastator), but Scott will make whatever you want.

I knew I liked you Gman. grin Holloran Cedar/Purpleheart is my go to box now. Just wish I could get out more this season to work the yard birds with it!

I like David's calls because of the weight of the lid. They are heavier than most box calls, making them super easy to make great sound. He builds turkey right into each one.

LOL...I'm very fortunate to be retired and able to hunt and fish when I please. The Almighty has certainly blessed me.
