Going on a 300 blackout ar

Looking for something that will do good in low light but not be huge. Lighted reticle would be good. Leaning towards and aim point, eotech or something smaller 1-4x power. Scopes are not my thing.

Trijicon 1-4 accu point is the easy answer. Depends on your budget.

I've been using the 3-9 for years now. Good simple scope.

Like anyone is like to save money but I've seen those popping up around 500 so that's a possibility.

Leupold VX-R. The problem with the Trijicon, is it's not illuminated, only fiber optic. It relies on sufficient light to "illuminate" the center of the reticle. So night hunting you are not guaranteed to be able to see your crosshairs/aiming point depending on how much moon you have or how thick of brush you may be in. If you are in a blind before sunup or after sundown, you basically have no ambient light...

I love the 1.25-4x VX-R I have on my CZ 527 7.62x39. Only the center aiming point is illuminated and if you set the rifle down, the illumination shuts off after 10 mins, but automatically comes back on to the last setting when it senses vibration (picking the rifle up).

What will your max shot range be?

If under 200, I'd say Aimpoint CompM2 (around $350).
If consistently over 200, I'd say an ACOG TA31F or TA01NSN (depends on which reticle you like better). And don't worry, the tritium will be plenty bright to aim with after dark.

School me in red dots. They are appealing but never used one.

Red dots are awesome for shots on close or fast moving targets.

If you're going to be hunting over feeders 100-300 yards away, I'd suggest getting a 1-4x variable scope of some sort.
If you're walking and stalking, then you're probably going to want a red dot.

you could get a pepr mount with the rail top rings then put something like a fastfireIII on top of your scope.

You could do a red dot with a flip to the side 3x magnifier, but by the time you got quality kit you'd probably spend less getting a quality 1-4x.

Check out the Burris MTAC.

What about a sight mark with a magnifier? Can get into that at 200 and if I don't care for the red dot I'm not out a lot of money. Not sure I even want a red dot but for what it's primary us will be that may be the most logical choice. But then again I could use it to deer hunt with eventually too.

But looking at them they don't seem all that great.

Agreed. If you're going red dot, buy Aimpoint or EOTech.
