Looks like I'll be doing some hunting with my boys in that area this year and any feedback is appreciated. I know there's hogs. Any decent dove hunting along the river bottoms? And what about the deer hunting in the area?

Deer hunting in this area can be very good, depending on size of property and hunting pressure.

White tail and mule deer, lots of hogs. Not that many deer but they do get pretty big. If you are in a area where there are wheat fields they are pretty easy to find on the trails in/out. Otherwise can be tricky to find them with all the ravines in the area.

We several places on the south side of the Pease. Kill every hog you see please. Whitetails are decent, fewer in numbers since the drought but still nice deer available.

We rarely see any mule deer, like 4 in 6 years. Unless you get farther west than Highway 6 don't expect many mulies.

Dove hunting can be phenomenal, but better off the river than on the river. Wheat fields with tanks.

We're near Hwy 6 on the River, pm or call me if you need more information

Was reading somewhere but can't remember where that a lot of people hunt the Pease river off Hwy 6 because since it is considered a navigable river that deer hunting between vegetation lines is legal up and down the river? Wish I could remember where I read it. Does that sound right? If that is the case I'm going to start hunting the Llano River and forego getting a lease:).

I live on the Pease River just east of the bridge on Highway 6. You can hunt the river but it seems like the laws change every year. Use to you could hunt bank to bank but now they changed it to where you have to be in the water. The game warden around here watches the river alot and will give you a ticket if you step out of the water. Couple of years ago a man shot another man lil before daylight. The guy claims he thought the other guy was a pig.

I heard about that, Justin, It's almost impossible to stay in the water, as most streams out west only have water after a good runoff. To me that's trespassing. Navigable waterways are one thing. Intermittent streams are a different animal. Too bad the 'hunter' was such an idiot that he shot another human being for looking like a hog. muyloco
