Well, this was my first full duck season, after hunting the last weekend of the season last year I was definitely hooked and couldn't wait til this season. I bought a 60HP outboard, decoys, and a few other items and went at it all season. Finished the season with 127 ducks being shot out of my rig, I probably shot 80ish of those. I hunted all public, with just me and my teenage cousin most of the time. Some days it was a blast, some days I wondered why I ever picked up this addicting hobby. The first split was much better for me than the second split, we shot around 85 birds the first split and around 40 the second, 12 of those being the last day of the season. It took me til the very last day of the season to shoot a 2 man limit, we got close some days but no cigar. I hunted quite a few days this year and scouted as much as I could. I think the most frustrating thing for me was finding birds in a spot one day, coming back the next morning and they either weren't there or they landed 200-300 yards away. It was cool to see birds check out my spread, not like something they saw and leave, then I'd try and figure out what it was and they'd start working better, cool feeling. All in all, it was really tough but a lot of fun. Got all the gear cleaned up and put away but I can't wait til next season, I've already been trying to find a good deal on a mudbuddy for next year, and possibly a chocolate lab. My goal this year was 200 ducks, next year I'm going for 250. I had a great time and season, and learned something (or 3) new every time I went out.

And also a huge thanks to mohunter and his hunting buddy, don't think I went 2 days all season without blowing up one of their phones asking for help or advice on something, it was probably really obnoxious but oh well, he shouldn't have taken me last year and gotten me addicted. Doubt I would've shot half the birds I did without all their advice though.

Heading out on a 4 day quail hunting trip this weekend (I'm much better at upland hunting.) then it's back to the work grind until next season!

Glad you got it done the last day, also glad you hit the lake I told you about, always fun scouting a new lake by yourself. I figured you would start figuring it all out but as I told you a long time ago, it's not fun if its just given to you, you have to figure it all out on your own to feel a sense of accomplishment.

I think you did great for your first season and sorry for sending you photos of our limits every week, haha. Just wanted you to keep pushing forward because there are always plenty ducks to chase regardless of what you read on forums.
I know you were disappointed when you asked how many ducks we killed last week of season and I told you 154, you told me that was more than you killed all season.

Something to look forward to next season, I think you will blow 250 out of the water next season if your on the water as much as you were this past season.

Looks like a good season cman. For me it's about getting away from work and enjoying the outdoors, not how many birds I shoot. I like to keep track of what I shoot out of curiosity, but I do not set goals on how many ducks I want to shoot, that would take the enjoyment out of it for me. Good luck next season.

You ain't sorry! Liar! It did keep me motivated though. I hope I blow 250 out of the water next year, I plan on hunting a lot of different lakes next year instead of sticking to the same one until the last weekend of the season, that part hurt me I think. Better to be mobile.

Guy, I'm competitive by nature so I always like setting goals for myself, I definitely enjoy nature and just being out there but a little extra fuel to the fire is fun. I really wanted to shoot a pintail drake and a woody drake this year and somehow didn't get either. Only time I had a chance at woody all season sooomebody (mohunter) had to shoot it before I even got my gun up, gotta be fast!

Wait till you get to the fun part where you do shoot fast and then have to figure out who shot what, makes it even better! Congrats on a good first season, have a better and safe one next year.

Side note: spectra shot seems like the dumbest product in the world. It sounds good in theory but in 100+ ducks shot this year I found 4 pellets. And if it's a mounter, you can't take it apart to look anyway! confused2
Does anybody actually use that stuff?
