Does sorting bullet weight really make a diff?
Got a box of amax and noticed the diffrence of bullet weight from one bullet to the next

Those are good bullets and don't tend to vary enough to justify sorting them. If there's 25 out of 100 that are .3 gr off what are you going to do with them? Not shoot them? Try to get a new trajectory for them?

IMHO the only time to really get anal that bad is when you are shooting bench rest and can really really shoot good when every little tiny detail could give you that small margin over the next guy.

For the shooting that I do that little bit of difference is not going to change anything when the steel plates are a decent sized. Knowing the wind is a better option. Which I need to work on. Ymmv.

When I had a 284. I was shooting the 162 Amax. First time out with the rifle I took it out to 800 and back shooting at every 100 yards. Never missed a best. The 162 is an awesome bullet. Load them up and shoot them till you run out.

If are trying to attain the extra bit of accuracy to break a world record, sure it might be worth it. But for your common hunting or long range shooting, no. If I were to weigh anything, it would be the actual case and sort them by weight. But it's a PITA to do and keep separated. I worry more about practicing and making good wind calls more than anything else.

I concur with the gents above. Unless in BR and likely with a open comp rail gun most won't be able to shoot the difference.

If I have to sort bullets then I'm not using good bullets...fyi, I haven't shot amaxs in a realy long time and don't really have an opinion on them.

I pretty much use Berger hybrids or custom bullets and I don't sort. I used to sort via bearing length and weight but it got to the point where I had 1 big pile with 2-3 bullets that were darn close. So I just load'em and shoot'em though.

I will say the old Sierra 107 MatchKings were worth sorting. I know they have recently released a new pointed (not tipped but pointed) version that if they are more consistent or as consistent as the Berger's I'll try them.

I do shoot BR (not small groups in paper though) and I plan to shoot some tactical stuff this year. My motto has always been I'll strive to have the best shooting/tuned rifle at every match. The reason is I know I'm not the best shooter (wind reader) there and I hope that will give me just a slight advantage to screw up a wind read and still come away with some cash. So rest assured if I thought I could gain an advantage by sorting bullets over my competitors I would...I just don't find it's worth the time spent for no more bad ones that I found. If I was retired and had nothing to do I might but time is my biggest enemy on getting stuff done.
