Think I'll quit using them....Jack county has been in a drought and it's important to me to know within .25" how much rainfall i've got on my fields and when I have to drive out to irrigate. Farm logs says .20...my rain gauge....

I guess it depends are where you are located. Farm logs has been very accurate for me. Of course none of them can be completely accurate. It can rain 1" on west side of road and .2" on the east side. I own several tracts of land, all within 3 miles of each other in Oklahoma, and it actually gives me different rain totals for some of them.

Doesn't Farmlogs give data for the past 24 hours? Your rain gauge has been collecting rain for how long?

I do daily measurements for the CoCoRaHS reporting system and use their gauges. Each ranch has its own gauge and Farm Log is way off most of the time.

Ditto here too, less the farm log. As Pitt said, measurements cant vary wildly with in a storm or front. Farmlog is probably 99% accurate where the reading was taken.

Gives me a fairly accurate read on precip. Sometime they are slow to update the app though.

Where/how do they get their information?

Some of the responses above say they get it from participants that are willing to put farm log gear on their property and allow steady internet access to update their logs. It's very accurate if you are one of the participating weather stations...but not reliable at all if you're aren't and have crops in the field. It may be useful to some but it's just cluttering up my pc.

From Farmlogs website'

""How do you get rainfall data and how accurate is it?

We use a dataset that comes from a special team at the National Weather Service to provide the field rainfall tracking. The AHPS team uses multiple radar and ground stations to algorithmically calculate the amount of precipitation falling on a high-resolution grid across the entire US within 2 kilometer accuracy.

Once they know how much rain is falling, they factor in variables like wind and terrain that would influence where the rain is actually hitting the ground. We read in the rainfall grid from them every single hour and match the data up with the boundaries of your fields.""

Yep, beauty salon is where they get mine too. My wife says that's where all the "factual information," comes from for our town.

Like the local coffee shop, one rancher says he got 2" and one farmer says .2", then they both agree it ain't near enough no matter how much they got.
