Been slow, so thought I would post a report. Hunted SW of Plainview, sand hills and corners for a day and half. Weather day one was really nice, high of about 55 moderate winds. 20 mph winds, freezing drizzle and 11 degrees when we let the dogs out on Tues morn (we lasted about 3 hours and called it, worried about roads). Think we found 11 coveys on Monday, all but one was about 15 birds. Found 4 Tues morning. Was very surprised about how much the birds were running as thick as cover was, I thought we were on blues or pheasants several times were we trailed birds for 50 to 75 yards, lost track of some and two others we had to push them to a road to get them off the ground (birds havent been hunted but once this year). So cold, had to put hand warmers on top of duck tape to get the dog boots taped up each morn. Pictures not great, so cold both the cameras I was carrying froze up on me on Tues. Never saw a pheasant, but I think we trailed one through limited cover in a corner for about 100 yds - dont think bobs could possible run that fast.

Good news. Like the pictures.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Minus the bad turn in the weather looks great. Birds seem in great shape out there.

Beautiful pics. We saw more quail this year in Wellington than we have seen in several years. There is still hope!

Sounds like a good trip. Is his tail black or is that some kind of protector that I need to look in to? My older dog busts his tail every pheasant opener, and it doesn't heal until march

Looks like fun
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

One more wet summer and it may be really good again. Went to Wellington and Quail and did well myself.
