Thought you folks in Texas would be as appalled by this as I was.

It seem the NPS has a plan to shoot between 314 -500 whitetails in the Shenandoah National Park targeting male deer one and half years old and older. BTW, how they came up with 314 is beyond me. This is going to be a shoot carried out with silencers, spotlight, etc.

Now for the reason. It seems the NPS wants to carry out this deer kill so that they can see if there are any cases of CWD. They also claim that they need to target the mature bucks because according to the NPS, these deer are the segment of the population most prone to contracting CWD. Now there has NEVER been a case of CWD in this area ..NEVER. West Virginia has had a few cases of CWD and I believe that there was one case of CWD in VA right on the West Virginia and Virgnia border, but nowhere near the Shenandoah National Park.

Furthermore, there are numerous private landowners that adjoin the Shenandoah National Park that have been practicing QDM and passing young bucks who will now see a lot of their hard work wiped out by this plan.

Typical of the NPS there were very few public hearings and the hearing were not well publicized.

I found out about this yesterday from my Taxidermist who gave me a flyer and a NPS website address that allowed me to post a comment (comment period ended today).

Just thought I'd share a little frustration and post here. Keep an eye out for something stupid like this popping up in your state.

It already has. TPWD has slaughtered hundreds of deer from game farms because of the owners doing something stupid and haven't found a single infected deer yet as far as I know. But here they killed them all, bucks,does and fawns.

Wow.. And I thought TPWD was over zealous
