I love the performance of the .308 Hornady 150g SST. Been shooting it with great results over the past three seasons on our central texas white tail. However, my gun, Ruger M77 with Sporter Barrel does not. It just will not group well enough for my expectations. It shoots the 168g Winchester Silver Tip under 1 moa but that is a round that is unobtainable. So, does anyone have any experience with the Limbsaver de-resonator? Will it really change the barrel whip and perhaps improve the performance when shooting the Hornady round?

168 A-max?

This problem is normally something that can be addressed by varying powder charge until the barrel likes it. But if you're not a hand-loader, and I assume you are not, it is worth a try. Any time you hang a weight from a barrel, you change harmonics. More prevalent the thinner the barrel. This is quit obvious when shooting suppressed. You could make Sharpie marks on the barrel every two inches, shoot for a group, and record the outcome at the various positions. It that's the type of device you are speaking of.

FiremanJG, this is exactly what I was planning. I know that I should have picked up the rifle and a box of everything I could find and see which grouped best. Did not do that for reasons outside the scope of this forum, instead went with the Hornady. I love the terminal effects of the round, I just need to get better groups for my own sanity and what little hair I have left. I just wanted to know what experiences others have had.

Why is the Win 168silertip unobtainable? My gun hates them. Unfortunately my gun seems to only like match ammo, which is really ticking me off since all of my guns serve as hunting rifles first, then target gun on their days off

Edit: if you weren't so far from DFW I would trade you my Win silver tips for your Hornady, I've been wanting to try that in my gun

Just keep a tape measure handy with the de-resonator, no need to mark the barrel. Write down what the group is like for each measurement, soon you'll have the best position chased down.

I made a home-made tuner for an AR one time, and used a plastic 6" vernier caliper to measure and change the position of the weight. One brand and bullet weight ammo used one position, and the next brand would need a slightly different setting.

I wrote the measurements down, and could set it for several types of ammo.
