Other than buying a randsom rest how do you guys test pistol accuracy ? I'm a slightly better than average pistol shot but still not good enough to get accurate results. Do you guys use one of the cheaper rest? And what yardage to you test your loads at? Thank you

I test a pistol the same exact way I do a rifle. I load up my test rounds in .1 grain increments, and shoot them as accurately as possible at 25 yards. I have found your pistol will shoot certain loads better than others, just like a rifle. I tested my G35 in 40 cal this way. I am in the middle of testing both my G20 and G29 in 10mm with the new Lone Wolf barrels I just installed. When testing, I shoot seated from a bench, I rest my forearms on sandbags, and concentrate on a perfect trigger squeeze and sight picture. I normally shoot through a chonograph to get velocity readings also. Each test load will have it's own aiming point or 3" shoot n see to know which group is which. I normally test at 25 yards.

I just can't test accuracy in my pistols, because outside of 5 yards, I have none to test with!

I once shot an 11", 5 shot group at 100 yards with my little Kahr PM40. I was aiming at the head and POI was in the neck area. I am always curious and tinker and play with stuff!

Pretty much do the same as Chad for the load developement in pistols. I will also stretch them out to 50 or 100 yards quite often once I find a good load that functions reliably and is accurate at 25 yards.

One thing that helped my pistol shooting accuracy out was not trying to contain the gun or hold it down. I just have a firm grip on it and let it jump if it wants too and concentrate more on my site picture. This is shooting pretty warm ruger/tc loads in a 45Colt for hunting ammo.

I pretty much do the same as Chad. Seated from a bench with sandbags and I shoot 5 shot groups at 50 feet. My father used to shoot his 1911 all the time offhand and he could shoot 1 hole groups at that distance on a good day. I need a rest to be able to tell which loads shoot better lol.
