Hey guys moved here about a year ago and it was the first year I did not have any venison in the freezer. I have a small chunk of property outside of Whitehouse in Smith County. I got two shooter bucks on my camera about two weeks ago. Long story short had an 8 Pointer coming in 2 nights in a row the third night I went to stand and someone took out my foot pegs form tree so i was limited to hunting from the ground ;(. It was to dark to tell but I deer showed up blowing and stomping. Ever since then no sight on the camera. I was just hoping to get a pep talk. Does anyone else hunt this area? When will the rut come in?

I think the 2nd buck it different. I think he showed up after the first

Two different bucks, and the one that busted you will come back if someone else doesn't tag it remember next week is opening guns season... the rut, is anyone guess normally after Thanksgiving but the weather is going to dictate the exact time and it will vary vastly throughout Texas.

Welcome to Texas and the forum I recently posted my buck pic "2014 10 Point". I hunt Upshur County---40-50 miles north of you. My buck was in full rut. The deer that were there when I shot him have been skittish to say the least ever since. They will eventually calm down as will the ones coming to your feeder. Good luck. Dang tree huggers or thieves. They need to stay on their property.

It's the time spent in God's creation with family and friends making memories that counts.

are you hunting over a feeder? if so set the time the corn goes off later in the morning and earlier in the night... try and get him patterned to coming in the daylight hours... those old big bucks are hard to get in the daylight outside of rut... sit out there enough during the rut though and you will probably get a shot on him. Good luck and welcome to Texas!
